But one day, he received a phone call that would turn his life upside down.
The caller appeared to be from DoorDash.
They told him his account had been deactivated and that he needed to follow some instructions to get it working again.
Now, for someone who relies on deliveries to make a living, that sounds like a serious problem, doesn't it?
So the father followed the instructions.
He was told to visit a kiosk and enter a code.
But there was just one problem.
The call wasn't really from DoorDash.
It was a scam.
And before he knew what had happened, the money from his last paycheck was gone.
Just like that.
And here's what makes this particularly heartbreaking.
He had already paid his rent and his car payment.
The money the scammers took was everything he had left.
And the following day was his daughter's birthday.
