Brave Young Girl Calls 911 To Save Dad’s Life And Her Call Is Cracking Everyone Up
Savannah, a five-year-old girl from Hancock County, Indiana, has gone viral online as a hero. She acted quickly upon noticing that her dad was having difficulty breathing. Her call to 911 was routed to experienced dispatcher Jason Bonham, who worked with Savannah to ensure her father’s safety until paramedics arrived. Reportedly, Savannah was most impressive in her calmness and composure throughout the process…

When Jason picked up the 911 call, he was completely caught off guard when he heard the voice of a little girl on the other end of the line. He quickly realized that this wasn’t a prank and it was very serious, but still found it very difficult to take the call seriously…

There was something very wrong with 5-year-old Savannah’s father and Jason quickly sent paramedics her way, all the while he stayed on the phone with Savannah. The conversation they had would be one that Jason, and anybody who listened to it afterwards, would never forget.

The conversation was absolutely hilarious in a situation where this absolutely should have never been the case. In the end, Savannah was considered a hero by many by now millions of people have listened to the conversation she had with the 911 dispatcher. But what made this conversation so hilarious and how did it come to be?

One evening, Savannah was snuggled up on the sofa with her dad. It was late, but Savannah hadn’t been able to fall asleep. Her mother was out of town on a business trip and Savannah missed her terribly. To help soothe his daughter, Savannah’s dad allowed her to stay up late. But trouble was on the horizon.

Although Savannah is usually in bed at 8:30, this night was an exception, and her father will forever be grateful that he hadn’t sent her to bed early. They were watching Frozen together – Savannah’s favorite movie. Savannah’s dad made Savannah promise that she would go to bed after the movie. Though Savannah still missed her mom, she agreed to this.

They turned on the movie and gathered together on the couch with popcorn. Savannah didn’t feel tired at all. Mostly she missed her mom. So she was happy to get caught up in the music and the animation of her favorite movie. Savannah’s dad decided that it was nice to have some impromptu daddy-daughter time. He would be forever grateful for this decision!

Partway through the movie, when Elsa is conducting the children’s choir, Savannah’s dad decided to go make some more popcorn because movies are best with popcorn. Savannah didn’t think much of it, she just sang along with the movie. But then, Savanna heard all kinds of noise coming from the kitchen…

For starters, LouLou, the family dog, ran into the kitchen and started barking. This is nothing out of the ordinary for Lou, but then the dog kept on barking. First, Savannah told LouLou to be quiet, but Lou didn’t listen. So Savannah called for her dad to see what was going on. But then he didn’t respond either!

Savanna paused the film and decided to go into the kitchen to see for herself. She even paused in the middle of the song, which ordinarily would not be something she would do! LouLou continued to bark and she shouted at LouLou to be quiet and just wait! However, once Savanna entered the kitchen, she knew straight away that there was big trouble.

Savannah instantly realized something was terribly wrong when she found her father lying on the kitchen floor, surrounded by all the popcorn. She rushed up to him to try and help but her father kept on grabbing his chest. Savannah called out his name but he didn’t answer. She didn’t understand what was going on.

Savannah kept asking him what was wrong and why he was on the floor together with all the popcorn. But he couldn’t tell her. All the while, he was making strange noises from his throat. Was he choking or was it something else? Savannah knew she had to do something quick. But she wasn’t sure what.

Savannah, although only five years old, noticed her dad was struggling to breathe. She realized he wasn’t able to speak and was clutching his chest. This was very frightening to little Savannah, as would be expected in the situation. However, she was smart, and her parents had taught her what to do in a situation like this.

Savannah was not allowed to use a mobile phone, nor did she know where her dad’s phone was. But luckily her parents had prepared Savannah differently. Her parents had always kept the wall-mounted phone in the kitchen for situations like these. But the phone was mounted really high on the wall!

Savannah ran and got a kitchen chair, which she then pushed against the wall so she was able to reach the high wall phone. Her parents had strictly told her this was only allowed in emergencies. She quickly climbed the chair and grabbed the phone, hoping the cord was long enough so it could reach her father on the floor. But then she realized something.

Savannah thought first about giving the phone to her dad before calling 9-1-1, but realized he was not able to speak, nor was he having an easy time breathing. Additionally, the cord of the phone was probably too short to reach him anyway. Savannah swallowed and made the decision that she was going to be the one to call 9-1-1 herself.

After dialing the 9-1-1 number her parents had taught her, she understood she needed to be the spokesman for her father and get help from the phone operator, and which would eventually turn into the famous and hilarious recorded 9-1-1 call. Thankfully, her parents had coached her a little bit on what to expect.

Knowing when to call 911 and understanding what to do in specific emergency situations can save lives! Parents, spouses, and children all need to know how to respond and what to expect from a 9-1-1 call. It is best to prep children young and to give them a thorough understanding as soon as possible!

Even when children are very small, it is wise to teach them what to do if they’re in need of help. Savannah’s parents had explained to her when she was very small that if she or someone else needed help, that she should go to the nearest trustworthy adult. But on that night, the only adult around was Savannah’s dad…

Thankfully, Savannah knew that calling 911 would bring others to help. Savannah hurried and dialed the numbers. Quickly, the operators put her through to the correct service. Soon, she was talking to Jason Bonham. Jason was shocked at how young Savannah was, and he knew he needed to help the little girl make it through the scary event.

Jason has been working as an operator for eleven years but has never spoken to a caller of such a young age and he was surprised how well-spoken and calm Savannah was. He realized that in order for her to keep calm, he had to ask the right questions and inform the girl what to do in the right order.

But Jason was mostly surprised because it reminded him of something similar that happened in his own youth. He knew what could go wrong, and he wanted to try to prevent Savannah from experiencing what had traumatized him as a little boy. He quickly began asking her questions to prevent a similar experience.

Jason, now 37 years old, told a reporter afterwards he felt it was fate that Savannah got to speak to him on the phone. As a young boy, Jason had once been in a similar situation back in 1990. He had only been 7 years old at the time, and still had slight trauma of what had happened to him.

He had shortly even begun seeing a psychologist to deal with what had happened because the event had been very scary and left him traumatized. The whole ordeal had prompted him to become a dispatcher later in life, because he wanted to do his part in repayment for what had happened to him as a child.

In the evening in the middle of the summer holiday, somewhere in the ‘90s, when Jason had been playing in the living room with some of his favorite toys. It had been a night like any other and Jason had no idea about what was going to happen. But then, his mother had collapsed out of nowhere.

She was lying on the floor right next to him, not moving. And as most children would, he had panicked. His father was working late but luckily Jason, too, had learned about calling 911 from a young age. But by his experience, he had made a mistake. He would try not to let Savannah make the same mistake as he had made a long time ago.

Jason’s first task was to find out from Savannah what her dad’s symptoms were. Savannah, as stunningly level-headed as always, managed to ask her dad what was wrong. Slowly, painstakingly, Savannah’s dad was able to communicate to her that he was having heart pains as well as trouble breathing. Savannah relayed this to Jason.

In the recording of the call that has now gone viral, Jason reassures Savannah that help is on the way. The sweet little girl relayed the information to her dad, keeping him updated during this scary moment. However, Jason quickly needed to calm her down when a worrying thought occurred to her.

Savannah suddenly became very worried if it was all right for her and her dad to be in their pajamas while the paramedics were en route. She and her dad had been wearing their pajamas and having a pajama party while watching Frozen before all this trouble started. Savannah especially felt that her oversized pajama shirt wasn’t appropriate!

Wanting to be polite and mannerly, she decided to go to her room to change into something more suitable. However, Jason quickly informed her that it was vital she stayed with her father until help arrived, just in case something happened. Despite being so young, Savannah understood and dutifully did as Jason told her.

Seeing a parent in pain and distress would be an upsetting experience for anyone, but at the time of the call, Savannah was only five. It would be easy for the situation to become overwhelming, and so Jason knew he needed to help keep the little girl in her current state of calm.

In the call transcript, Savannah and Jason can be heard getting to know each other a little bit. Jason knew it was important that Savannah stayed on the phone so that he knew what was going on in the house. So, he started chatting with Savannah and getting to know her a little bit to pass the time.

Jason managed to find a good balance between keeping the little girl calm and chatty, as well as interested, but also keeping her aware of monitoring her dad’s state of health. Jason knew he had to be careful though, because he didn’t want to scare Savannah. He needed her to be as cooperative as possible!

As part of chitchat, Savannah introduced Jason to her dog LouLou, much to everyone’s delight. Savannah described LouLou as being a friendly dog, but also a dog that “barks a lot.” The conversation had other dispatchers in hysterics.

Savannah probably could have talked about LouLou forever! She also told Jason a little bit about Frozen. Jason had little idea what Frozen was, but he was happy to listen to Savannah talk about the movie, so long as she kept him updated on how her dad was doing. So the conversation was a bit all over the place!

So what had happened to Jason, all those years ago? Well, as a little boy, the paramedics had shown up quickly to help his mother. But what had traumatized him, was that nobody had told him to unlock the front door. When the paramedics wanted to come in, they started shouting for him to open the door.

This had caused the poor 7-year-old to be paralyzed with fear and he had not been able to move and open the door for them. Even if he had gone to the door, he’d had no idea what to do. This had cost a very crucial minute which had been so important for the health of his mother. The paramedics weren’t able to open the door.

When Jason was finally able to move he couldn’t find the key. All the while, his mother was still unconscious on the floor. A crucial minute and a traumatizing experience for 7-year-old Jason at the time, when the paramedics had to slam the front door glass out to get into the house. Jason would never forget that horrifying moment!

When the paramedics had entered the building in such a hurry, 7-year-old Jason had been shocked and had felt terrible for not being able to open the door and costing his mother such crucial moments. Now Jason wanted to do his absolute best to make sure something this traumatizing would not happen to Savannah.

“This was one of my childhood traumas to which I could’ve lost my mother.” At one point in the conversation between Jason and Savannah, Jason specifically asked Savannah if she could unlock the front door. He wanted to be one-hundred-percent sure. Savannah told him that she could, and Jason sighed in relief. Jason later recalled:

Luckily for Jason and his father, back then the paramedics had quickly transported his mother to the hospital, and she was saved and had fully recovered later, however he was also told that it shouldn’t have been one minute longer or they would’ve lost her. Jason will never forget how close she’d come to death!

Savannah remained on the phone with Jason for almost ten minutes while paramedics raced to the house. Savannah bravely kept Jason up to date on her dad’s condition, while Jason supported her through the scary situation. The only time Savannah left the phone was to go unlock the front door, which Jason readily allowed!

Soon, the emergency services arrived and started preparing Savannah’s dad for the hospital One of the paramedics, who preferred to remain anonymous, stayed with Savannah, knowing the girl needed someone with her until her mother could be contacted. Similar to Jason, she was impressed with the little girl’s composure and charming personality.

“What a wonderful kid,” she said. “I hope my kids would act as quickly and cleverly as Savannah in a situation like this.” She also told reporters that Savannah had been a real trooper in wrangling the dog out of the way of the paramedics! The anonymous paramedic told reporters how wonderful Savannah was.

“We were really lucky she had unlocked the door, and LouLou the Dog was not too much hassle, although Savannah was right: LouLou did bark a lot!” As it turned out, Savannah had the forethought to keep LouLou in check beforehand so the paramedics could work! The paramedic continued her story…

Savannah knew how LouLou acted around new people. So when the paramedics arrived, she grabbed LouLou and held him out of the way. She completely prevented him from running in front of the paramedics’ feet or interfering with them at the job at hand – which was saving her father! Savannah knew what was up!

“There was this girl holding and comforting her dog.” All the while, the paramedics are working on getting her father loaded up in the ambulance. Savannah remained so brave. The paramedic told the reporters the most touching part of the story, painting a beautiful picture of Savannah and her dog:

“After [the other] paramedics took her father, I had an important question to ask her,” “As a paramedic, I have been into quite a lot of situations. And when it comes to kids, it’s always very different how they react to such happenings. Luckily, Savannah stayed cool, calm and collected.”said the paramedic who stayed with Savannah.

Savannah made the choice to go with her dad to the hospital. Savannah wanted to be with her dad. The paramedic told Savannah that she couldn’t go to the hospital dressed in her pajamas, which meant that she would actually get her chance to change after all! She was given a few moments to pick out her outfit and then off they went!

“Most people when you talk to them, they’re hysterical,” he said. “Every time I’ve listened to the call again it’s amazing. Savannah is such an amazing little person.” The call never fails to bring a good laugh, and it can be used for training! Later, Jason said he was left impressed by how calm Savannah remained despite a terrifying situation.

Jason was finally able to hang up the call, leaving Savannah in the capable hands of the paramedics. But he couldn’t stop wondering how the story had ended. Savannah was the bravest little 5-year-old he’d ever interacted with. He was very emotional after that call and wanted only the best for Savannah.

Jason kept thinking about how close his own mom’s brush with death had been. While he had gotten lucky and she’d been properly taken care of, he also was well-aware of how crucial time had been and how little his mom had had to work with. He hoped Savannah’s case would not be so terrifying!

Thankfully, little Savannah did not have to deal with the situation totally alone. Jason, and then the paramedics were with her every step of the way. Savannah was incredibly brave and level-headed, but the emergency services showed themselves to be heroes, responding to hundreds of calls like Savannah’s every day.

Ambulance services are there for people experiencing the worst moments of their lives. Dispatch operators, drivers, paramedics, and hospital staff learn to stay calm during times when others are panicking. Many of them choose to be in those jobs because they know how important they are. And they feel called to help others!

Thanks to Jason, little Savannah was able to help her dad and was only responsible for him for ten minutes until the paramedics arrived. Jason did everything he could to make sure Savannah was in control of the situation. He could have dismissed her worries, but perhaps it really was fate that it had been him who received the call!

Supporting local ambulances and paramedic services is a good way to give back to the community. They are always there to help out and when they are needed, they are really, really needed. Paramedics and dispatchers have jobs that can be very heartbreaking, but it’s always exhilarating and heartwarming when everything works out all right in the end.

“It doesn’t happen often that children know exactly what to do and stay this calm during such an accident.” said a nurse afterward. In the hospital, the word had spread quite fast, and when Savannah arrived with the paramedic she received a warm welcome before visiting her father. Savannah kept a clear head through it all.

“We should try to teach and prepare our children for situations like these so if something terrible like this happens, other children will handle the situation exactly as Savannah did. She is a great example of good parenting.” Savannah’s parents’ prior actions ended up saving Savannah’s dad that day!The nurse continued on to say:

Savannah stayed with her dad as much as possible. When she couldn’t be with him, she brightened nurses and other people’s days in the hospital while she waited. She was remarked as a positive and passionate trooper. Everyone who met Savannah was so impressed with how she was acting!

As soon as Savannah’s mother was informed about her husband being in the hospital, she rushed back from her business trip to be there for her husband and daughter. Fortunately, everything turned out just fine for Savannah’s dad, thanks in large part to her articulate and level-headed nature. Savannah was the true hero of the day!

Savannah’s dad made a full recovery, and now tells everyone about how his daughter’s quick thinking saved his life. The experience didn’t leave Savannah with any fears or worries, and she’s just happy to have her dad home. But the whole family feels safer knowing that if anything bad happens, Savannah will be there to help save the day again!

“The paramedics were really really nice, especially the lady and so was the man on the phone.” She doesn’t think of herself as being especially brave, she was just doing what she knew she had to do. She was very grateful to all who helped out and will likely never forget them.Savannah later recalled:

When a local reporter asked Savannah if she would ever work herself for 911 Emergency Systems or maybe would like to become a paramedic now she was such a hero, she simply replied she felt to be more suited as a dog trainer and said she would like to try and teach LouLou not to bark so much anymore.
